When we think of grooming we think of clean cut perfectly faded beards, or scruff on a chiseled jaw line blending into a James Dean style crew cut. We think of the All American man sitting on a motorcycle parked by the beach with babes in bikinis walking by staring in admiration. Guys like: Chadwick Boseman, Brad Pitt, Benicio Del Toro.
Well guys, that can be you!
The most important thing about grooming is doing what looks best on you. Some guys who are naturally the lumberjack types look great with a full beard, hairy chest and faded flannel shirt. Driving a classic vintage American truck.
Other men fit the category: clean cut sports car guy without an ounce of body hair on them. Fresh slip on shoes and some above the knee bright colored shorts. It doesn’t matter what look you go for this summer all that matters is you own that look.
Here’s our top 5 grooming products for men this summer:
1. Manscaped “The Lawn Mower 3.0”
Some name brand sunscreens have pretty heavy chemicals in them. Research shows they can be toxic and even cause cancer. What’s the point in trying to screen your skin from sun damage and skin cancer if the stuff you’re putting on could cause it as well? That’s why we recommend non-toxic organic brands when wearing sunscreen. These more natural sunscreens offer broad-spectrum protection without the toxins. This one is our favorite for summer 2020. They have products for the kids too for you DILF’s out there!
3. Dr. Bronner’s Organic soaps (assorted)
If you haven’t experienced the ball tingling fresh clean of Dr. Bronner’s peppermint soap we aren’t sure you’ve truly lived. Lather the soap just like you would any other soap or body wash and give it about 15 seconds and you’ll feel the tingle. It’s great! It also makes your junk smell as fresh as a meadow of green peppermint plants.
Natural soaps are the rage these days as pharmaceutical companies and household name brand home and body companies begin to get outed for their use of toxic chemicals in products. No joke! Even some of their baby products have been found to be toxic. That’s why Jessica Alba’s The Honest Company, and other similar ethos companies, have done so well. Same goes for men. Why should you continue dousing your skin with harsh soaps and chemicals when there are other healthy, safe alternatives?
Dr. Bronners is available nearly everywhere but Trader Joe’s has the best prices we’ve seen. So next time you’re stocking up on your favorite foods, throw a bottle of Dr. Bronner’s soap in your cart and get ready to feel more fresh and clean than ever before.
Which leads us to number 4. Our favorite item on the list this summer.
4. Dr. Bronner’s organic coconut oil (fair trade)
While there’s dozens of coconut oil brands on the shelves these days we like to go with trusty Dr. Bronner’s for their altruism and fair trade practices. Knowing your products come from a company that is doing business overseas with fair trade policies in our mind makes all the difference.
This coconut oil can be used for anything. Literally. The reason it’s now coming back into style is because household corporate brands and name band oil companies pushed “canola oil” and “vegetable oil” with all sorts of other oils on consumers in the 50’s to maximize their products and monopolize the markets. Nowadays consumers won’t stand for that. Enter the resurgence of coconut oil and not just for cooking but also as a body product.
Coconut oil has been used as a safe and healthy alternative to moisturize skin, hair, beards and even leathers and wood products for millennia. The coconut tree is one of the oldest known trees on earth. We evolved with coconuts and their nutrients and nutritional benefit as well as hydration and skin care abilities.
As simple as it sounds just take coconut oil in the shower with you and after you shutoff the shower use it on your skin to lock in that moisture and rub it in until it dries. It’s how many people get that fresh tan look as it brings out the color in your skin. Or a dab on your hand will smooth out your frizzy beard as naturally as any “beard oil” product.
You can also put a spoonful in your frying pan to cook up some lunch. Some versions are more fragrant or more flavorful than others so ask your local health food store employee which version is right for you. Enjoy!
Last but not least we want to shoutout our local stylists and barbers who have been shutdown and out of work due to COVID-19. As soon as it’s safe (and legal) for you to get down to your local stylists, hairdressers, barbers, spa facilities, etc., we highly recommend you do! Small businesses are the backbone of our nation and success in small business is the most commonly filled American Dream.
Enjoy the summer! Be safe, healthy and well groomed out there gentlemen.
